Which Brand of DSLR Should I Buy?

This hub covers three major brands, two you probably already know, and one, may just surprise you a little.

So which brand should you look at, and why? These are key things you should be looking at when you're thinking about starting a photography studio on a budget. This hub is particularly suited to people looking into taking photography seriously, and as more than just a hobby.

Let's take a look at probably the most well known one, Nikon.

Here are the key points of buying a Nikon

  • Well respected brand.
  • Well known brand.
  • Has a good service record.
  • Big range of lenses and accessories.

Downfall: Price. They have market share, and they know it. Nikons are expensive, let's face it. But you're either a Nikon person or you're not.

Let's take a look at The Key Points of Buying a Canon

  • They are the fastest growing brand in the market
  • They are a well known, respected brand
  • They have the largest range of lenses, accessories, and third party branded compatible accessories.
  • They have a range of complementary products such as printers, chances are your equipment *may* just communicate better.
  • While product for product Canon may be a tad cheaper than Nikon, they too, have marketshare, and 'the name' allowing them to charge premium prices for their excellent products.

Here is the Brand to Watch: Sony!

  • Sony, always did well in the point and shoot market, and when Konica/Minolta decided to focus on their range of copiers and office equipment and discontinue their camera research, Sony bought the technology.
  • One of the smartest moves they made was to bring in The Carl Zeiss Brand to produce their lens technology. This German lens manufacturer has had a name in the lens manufacturing industry for the greater part of a century.
  • Another smart move they made was to put the image stabilization technology INSIDE the camera, rather than inside the lens (as is the case with Canon and Nikon). This saves the consumer HUNDREDS of dollars in the long run, because the cost to manufacture the lenses is far less.
  • They were one of the first brands to have live preview function on the rear LCD screen.
  • Their price points are UNBEATABLE. Please see the Amazon feature below for the latest up to the minute prices, and I think you will be astounded at the three flagship cameras, one for each brand.

Although I personally have been a Canon user, my next purchase will definitely be a Sony, because they are definitely the brand to watch going into the future.

Lastly, I have showcased the three leading brands here. That is not to say that there are not good, if not great cameras available in other leading brands such as Olympus, Pentax and Fuji for example. Please do shop around when entering the DSLR market, as there may be many bargains and choices to be had, and you don't want to miss out on a great deal, simply by buying into the hype over a particular brand, especially if you are a home user, who simply wants a few good lenses and a decent DSLR.
